Musica Sacra San Antonio

March 26th, 2017, 5:00PM

Musica Sacra San Antonio

Musica Sacra San Antonio, under the direction of Owen Duggan, will perform CPE Bach's choral-orchestral masterwork, Magnificat with guest soloists and members of the University Chorus of Our Lady of the Lake University. Soloists include Angela Malek, soprano; Crystal Jarrell, alto and Carr Hornbuckle, tenor. In the manner of his father JS Bach's Magnificat, passions and Mass in B minor, CPE's work is a grand, exhilarating gesture of choral polyphony, rarely performed due to the extreme virtuosity required of the orchestra, choir and soloists. Known as the 'Hamburg Bach,' CPE (Emanuel Bach) renders exquisite, cantabile phrases believed to have inspired Mozart, who in turn described him as "the father of us all." The program will also include Gabriel FaurÄ—'s sublime Cantique de Jean Racine and the "Agnus Dei" and "Dona nobis pacem" from JS Bach's Mass in B minor.
