SUMMARY:Austin Baroque Orchestra
DESCRIPTION:Electrifying\, passionate\, sensual — these are but a few wor
ds that can describe the genius that was the music of Antonio Vivaldi. Kn
own to his contemporaries as il prete rosso (The Red Priest) on account o
f his red hair\, his music has enchanted millions since it found widespre
ad popularity nearly a century ago. One of the most formidable violin vir
tuosi to ever live\, Vivaldi churned out one masterwork after another\, c
omposing dazzling concerti for his female students at the Ospedale della
Pietà and dramatic works for the opera-hungry Venetian public\, not to me
ntion music commissioned by various European royals. Our first all-Vivald
i program will consist of a diverse assortment of his instrumental and vo

om operas\, chamber works\, and arias from his sacred and operatic œuvre.
