Ensemble VIII, a select group of the country’s most talented early music vocalists, will present Tenebrae—Shadows of France under the direction of nationally renowned conductor Dr. James Morrow.

The seldom-heard, hauntingly beautiful repertoire includes Couperin’s Trois Leçons de Ténèbres and Charpentier’s Méditations pour le Carême and Le Reniement de St Pierre.

Details

The San Antonio Museum of Art and Musical Offerings continue their musical tour series with a trip through the Antiquities Galleries. The performance features works for soprano, baroque violins, baroque cello and harpsichord.

The vocal works are excerpted from Handel’s opera seria, Julius Caesar in Egypt, Purcell’s incidental music to Oedipus and Monteverdi’s final opera, The Coronation of Poppea. Additionally played will be instrumental music by John Blow and Christoph Gluck.
