Well… Haydn and Beethoven were linked through a teacher-student relationship (1792-1794). Beethoven moved to Vienna in 1792 to study with Haydn who was then the most famous composer in Europe. Both wrote great chamber music, including many superb settings of Scottish songs.

The San Antonio Recorder Quartet will present a concert of music from the 16th-18th centuries performed on four different sets of historically-accurate recorders; two matched sets of Renaissance recorders, and two sets of Baroque instruments, The program will include music by Charpentier, Josquin Desprez, Bourgeois, Goudimel, Orlando di Lasso, Sweelinck, Hassler, Buxtehude, Telemann, Guami, and Castello.

An annual “fan-favorite” concert. This time La Follia will focus on music from the wild and crazy days of the early Baroque. Music by Castello, Schmeltzer, Weckmann, Uccelini and others. If you don’t know them, well, that’s the point. As always, you can count on the music being fresh, exciting, and sublime.

Performers are Stephen Redfield and Joseph Tan, violins; Curtis Foster, recorder; Eric Mun, gamba; Nathaniel Brickens, sackbut; Keith Collins, dulcian; and Keith Womer, organ.

Olmos Ensemble musicians Mark Teplitsky, Eric Gratz and Julian Schwarz are featured soloists in this exuberant program of Baroque concerti. Guest harpsichordist Ian Pritchard and strings provide accompaniment. Music of J.S. Bach, C.P.E. Bach and Vivaldi. Admission free with open seating.

Philharmonie Austin Chorus is comprised of many of the country’s finest singers and made their first appearance singing ‘A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols’ in December of 2024. In the 2025-2026 season, we are officially launching them as a new resident choral ensemble in Austin, singing in three concerts!

Under the direction of conductor Mark Dupere and guest conductor Allen Hightower, the group will explore a diverse range of repertoire from the Renaissance to the modern era. They will serve as the official chorus for all Philharmonie Austin choral-orchestral projects in the future, including their appearance with Philharmonie Austin in this season’s ‘Mass in B-Minor’ by Johann Sebastian Bach. In addition to this concert, they will sing ‘A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols’ in December and the ‘Hear My Prayer’ concert in March.

They will aim to produce performances that enliven the soul, as the musicians draw on a diverse wealth of knowledge from generations of performance practice research, bringing this into the live performance sphere. The priority of each Philharmonie Austin Chorus performance is generous and communicative music-making, bringing older and newer musical language to life for today’s audience.
