The ensemble’s popular annual concert will feature Medieval and Renaissance Music of Christmas and a collection of well-loved carols from around the globe.

Los Inocentes present their third encore performance of “ALABADO”, this time in the historic beautifully restored Church of Mission San Jose. The title song “Alabado” was composed by the Franciscan Missionary Fr. Antonio Margil de Jesus, founder of Mission San Jose in1720. Also in this Concert, Saint Juan Diego, the Messenger of Our Lady of Guadalupe in 1531, will be honored on his Feast Day December 9, with original songs by Los Inocentes written in Nahuatl, the language used by Our Lady of Guadalupe to speak to Juan Diego.

An intimate afternoon of music and art with a concert of Spanish Renaissance music in the Spanish Colonial Gallery. The program features selections that reflect the art in the gallery, including a mass by Francisco Guerrero and a set of lively villancicos (Christmas carols) from the cathedrals of Latin America. Meet the artists before the concert at the museum’s Café des Artistes. A specially priced lunch menu will be available.

The Saint Cecilia Music Series and La Follia Austin Baroque present countertenor Ryland Angel to perform sacred works of the early Baroque celebrating Mary, mother of Jesus. Other special guests are Meredith Ruduski, soprano; Anna Griffis and Alan Austin, violins; and Amalia Bandy, violone.

A select group of the country’s most talented early music vocalists will reunite under the direction of nationally renowned conductor and soloist Dr. James Morrow to perform “Siglo de Oro–Spanish Polyphony of Morales and Victoria.”

This event was cancelled and will be rescheduled.
Baroque duo of Lorna Peters and Jubal Fulks present solo and duo repertoire that highlights the varying national styles of the 17th and 18th centuries.

This a cappella concert will feature music that celebrates the rich heritage of this historic San Antonio neighborhood. The program of mostly Early Music will include selections by German, French, and Spanish composers.

These early music specialists will perform Franz Schubert’s song cycle Die Schöne Müllerin. Ms. Edelen will play a reproduction of a later 18th c. German fortepiano by Johann Andreas Stein.

Keith Womer performs organ concertos of Mozart, Haydn, Vivaldi, Albinoni-Giazotto, and Handel, backed by the La Follia Austin Baroque string ensemble. The concert celebrates the 10th anniversary of the magnificent Baroque organ at St. Austin.

with harpsichordist Christina Edelen of Amsterdam will present a concert of music of the Middle Ages, Renaissance, and Baroque, played on instruments of like period. Gerald Self, host of Musica Antiqua on KPAC, will narrate the concert, which will be recorded for later broadcast on Texas Public Radio.

Taun Ogle Miner on flute, Cora Harnish on viola da gamba, and Dr. Daniel Long on harpsichord present music by Telemann, Quantz, Handel, and others.

Shakespeare’s Music
This hour-long concert explores music from the plays of Shakespeare. Presented in stories and music, the program contains 18 songs, either performed in the plays or mentioned by Shakespeare, along with dances familiar at the time. The performers are all recorder students of MSSA, as directed by Gerald Self.

Ensemble VIII presents its debut concert featuring professional vocalists from throughout the U.S. The repertoire includes familiar and seldom-heard masterworks of the Renaissance and Baroque eras. Dr. James Morrow founded and directs Ensemble VIII.

Award-winning soprano Angela Malek from San Antonio joins bass Gil Zilkha and tenor Jos Milton, with the La Follia Baroque ensemble, in a performance of three famous solo cantatas of J.S. Bach, including the Wedding Cantata and Ich habe genug. All join in a performance of Bach’s joyous secular Coffee Cantata. Margaret Perry of Austin Lyric Opera will present a free lecture on the cantatas of Bach 30 minutes before curtain.

Singers’ choice! Our singers perform their favorite madrigals by Monteverdi and English Renaissance composers such as Wilbye, Byrd, and the great Orlando Gibbons. Come experience this madness of madrigals in our first collaboration with the amazing SAMA.

Cellist Frederick Edelen and harpsichordist Christina Edelen present music of the French Baroque. Special guests are tenor Tony Boutté and baroque flutist Colin St. Martin. The concert will feature instrumental music by Rameau, Monteclair, and Boismortier, and the Coffee Cantata of Nicolas Bernier.
