At this concert, as a warm-up to the November election, you will be casting your vote for your favorite Baroque music in a series of “runoff elections.” Choose between modern vs. Baroque instruments, cello vs. gamba, mystery composers, and more.

Sonido Barroco’s next concert will be on October 26th at Zion Lutheran Church at 7pm. Baroque Brilliance will feature Telemann’s Concerto for Recorder and Flute in E minor with soloists Gerald Self and Kristin Hayes as well as music by Vivaldi, Durante and CPE Bach! Hope to see you there.

Olmos Ensemble presents Baroque Concerti, a concert featuring the music of Bach & Vivaldi. Violinist Eric Gratz, flutist Mark Teplitsky, cellist Allan Steele and harpsichordist Ian Pritchard will perform as soloists with Baroque orchestral accompaniment. Reception to follow.

On the morning of All Saints’ Day in 1755, a massive earthquake struck off the coast of Iberia and Morocco, causing regional destruction and decimating Lisbon, the capital city of the wealthy global Portuguese empire. Considered the world’s first global news event, word quickly spread, horrifying Europeans and inspiring such works as Voltaire’s “Candide” and Telemann’s “Donner-Ode”. Terremoto! will tell the story of the quake and its aftermath, featuring readings from contemporaneous sources interspersed among music from 18th-century Portugal, much of which has never before been performed in the US. Music for orchestra, choir, and vocal soloists by Teixeira, Almeida, Scarlatti, Rameau, Telemann, and more.

Music from St. Mark’s presents Ars Lyrica Houston on Sunday, January 14 at 4:00 pm. Their program is entitled “Fugal Games” – a quintessentially Baroque afternoon featuring works by G.P. Telemann, excerpts from J.S. Bach’s “Art of the Fugue,” and chamber pieces from “Musical Offering.” Featuring Matthew Dirst, harpsichord; Elizabeth Blumenstock, Baroque violin and viola; Stephen Redfield, Baroque violin; Sydney ZumMallen, Baroque cello; and Colin St-Martin, traverso.
